The Corum Peacock Tonneau is a play on what a maison is capable of doing when there are no restraints. Convention be damned, the Peacock Tonneau is an expression of artistry on the wrist. And in the 1970s, no one was better positioned to create in the rawest of forms like Corum. Gold bridges, coin watches and bubble cases – and then came the Peacock Tonneau. The most trivial part of the Corum Peacock Tonneau is the dial. Real peacock feathers, carefully chosen and arranged using traditional plumasserie craftsmanship, create a shimmering centerpiece that changes from blue to green to bronze as the light and your viewing angle shift. Corum examined each feather for density, colour and symmetry, before steam-cleaning and trimming them to size. They were then arranged with the assistance of a marquetry artisan, with the end result being something equal parts unique and equal parts beautiful. The proverbial cherry on top is that blue sapphire cabochon capped gold crown.
As far as watches with genuine charisma and talking points go, the Corum Peacock Tonneau is more than capable of shaking its colourful tail-feather.

This particular Corum Peacock Tonneau example is noted to have been from the 1970s. Unfortunately, and as most always, its box and papers were lost during the passage of time. But this micro vessel of horological intrigue presents beautifully. The dial is in outstanding condition, the case does bear the hallmark of being worn but ever so carefully with only some minor blemishes and scratches noted throughout. The cabochon on the crown is intact, as is the caseback and original gold-plated buckle engraved with Corum’s signature key emblem which pairs well with the aftermarket black alligator leather strap.
