The classic and supremely understated Cellini collection has seen many iterations since its inception during the 1960s. This was a period of time in watches that was full of daring designs and subtle, intricate details. The Cellini was to Rolex what jazz is to music, and with creativity in abundance the Cellini separated itself from the sterility of the crown’s Professional Oyster models and forged a path unto itself. The Cellini 3768 from circa 1971 is an example of such derivative design cues, with fine details spotted throughout, much like the horological equivalent of the proverbial “easter egg”. Rolex’s symbolic crown is spotted three times on the case: once on the dial, once on the crown and again on the caseback. A sloped and sweeping bezel surrounds a gleaming silver-coloured dial, which drops off to form the case middle, with thin angled lugs complimenting the nature of the 3768. A stand-out of the Cellini is the silver-coloured dial, complete with original gold baton hands and signature Cellini script.

Condition:

The Rolex Cellini 3768 presents in mint and unpolished condition. The original dial has been meticulously restored and retains much of its originality including the baton hands. All of its markings on the back are original and still completely intact. There are some light hairline scratches on the bezel. The Cellini 3768 comes with a leather Java lizard grain band with an aftermarket buckle made in a similar manner of Rolex’s original buckle. This is a true time capsule that presents in fantastic condition for a watch that is more than half a century old.
