Outside the box. Grass is greener on the other side. Against the grain. And so on, and so forth. Anyway, you get the gist of what I'm saying. So often, we fall into the trap of buying something that we think we want because we see it so often, ahem Instagram, ahem. So I took it upon myself to pick out several watches that truly march to the beat of their own drum, that we rarely (if ever) see on social media, but all that carry with them enough gusto to be a very viable and very considered option. Enjoy.
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton is one of those watches that is so underappreciated it's almost criminal. Clad in a lusciously warm pink gold, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton features an openworked dial showcasing that brilliant in-house calibre GP01800-0006. Love it
Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon
Ulysse Nardin's Blast Tourbillon is another example of why you should venture outside the norm when looking for your next super complicated watch. Tech-laden, full of contemporary finishings and materials, the Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon is an enigma of sorts and offers plenty of bang for your buck.
Franck Muller Vanguard Seven Days Colour Dream
The Franck Muller Vanguard Seven Days Colour Dream is an odd sort of watch, but it's one that has immense appeal, to me anyway. I love the brilliance of its colourful openworked dial, the white tonneau shaped case and the fact that it's just about as unknown as it is distinctly different.
Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges
As far as exceptional, modern haute horlogerie goes, the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges. Beautifully finished, lovely architecture, an enormously appealing aesthetic and a display of theatrics that belies its true complexity, the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges stands head and shoulders above a lot of more expensive and better known competition.
Ulysse Nardin Freak X
The carbon fibre Ulysse Nardin Freak X is the next generation of Freak timepieces from the revered watchmaker. It exhibits a unique and wholly satisfying time display that is unlike anything else out there. And all for what is, relatively speaking, a very approachable and accessible price point.
Zenith Stratos Spindrift Chronograph
Distinctly different and likely well below a lot of people's rader, the Zenith Stratos Spindrift Chronograph is an interesting timepiece that combines a rugged look with its gold and carbon fibre case, theatrics with its semi-openworked dial and a historically significant movement. Spectacular.
