MR PORTER Keeping Time - Part 2

A continuation of MR PORTER’s Keeping Time assortment, with the previous issue featuring a handful of timepieces that all represent the underlying tenor of the campaign. The last issue was highlighted by timepieces from Roger Dubuis, IWC and Cartier, all watches that are as significant as they are triumphant in their own rights. The second edition will draw attention to an equally as impressive collection of watches that represent the Keeping Time concept, including pieces from Hermès, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget and Vacheron Constantin.

Baume & Mercier Riviera

The Baume & Mercier Riviera heralds in a new and exciting era for the esteemed maison. The Riviera is an ode to all things Swiss. Its clean, flowing aesthetic makes for a sporty look, highlighted by that gorgeous transparent smokey grey sapphire dial and integrated steel bracelet. The Baume & Mercier Riviera’s look and feel is reminiscent of a traditional stainless steel sports watch, albeit one that is a bit friendlier on your back pocket.

The Riviera is as delightful as it is accessible, and has all of the bells and whistles to appease and intrigue. The contrast between that soft, grey smoked transparent dial, the bold hour markers and hands, the centre-focused brushing on the bold bezel and that contemporary bracelet really elevate the Riviera, far beyond its price point.

Hermès Slim D’Hermès GMT

From Hermès we have one of the most interesting prospects of MR PORTER’s Keeping Time campaign. Much like the Baume & Mercier Riviera, the Hermès Slim D’Hermès GMT features a semi-translucent smokey black dial, which partially shows the mainplate of the manufacture H1950 movement with the most beautiful of finishings.

Encasing the Hermès Slim D’Hermès GMT is 39mm of platinum which serves as the perfect partner to the smokey dial. Touches of colour do dot the dial, and with those delightfully casual looking hour numerals, thin hands and svelte look, the Hermès Slim D’Hermès GMT delivers more than the sum of its parts.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface

Up next is the lovely Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface. The Reverso is the quintessential Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece. It’s generational in its iconicity and remains a mainstay for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Its art deco styling continues to be revisited from way back when it was released in 1931, with the stereotypical Reverso design cues remaining front and centre.

This particular model is the more complicateReverso Tribute Duoface, which features a moon phase indicator as well as a day and month indicator on the “recto” side, while on the “verso” side there is a second time zone and a day/night indicator. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface is a highlight of the Keeping Time campaign, where its status as being a legend is as undisputed as the Reverso is still relevant as a horological staple.

The delightful Piaget Polo Date is an enigmatic timepiece that showcases the maison’s strengths in creating something that caters for the worlds of high horology and contemporary style. The Polo Date is a combination of wonderful wearability, modern chronometry, exceptional finishing and subtle design that is both contemporary and classical in nature.

In fact, the way the Polo Date dances across the decades of style change is one of the many reasons to marvel at its design. The Polo Date walks the blurred line between being an avant garde dress watch and a high luxury sports watch, modeling both categories with ease.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton

I’ve saved the best for last with the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton. An exceptional example of high watchmaking from one of the three maisons that make up the holy trinity of modern horology, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton is watch of the highest quality and regard.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton exhibits the magic of the tourbillon in the best way possible: with an openworked dial. The exposed Maltese Cross that acts as the tourbillon carriage is one of the most beautiful in horology. The beauty and grandeur of that tourbillon is matched only by the flawless finishing meticulously applied to the movement which is on full display through the openworked dial, with the same finishing being extended to the entire pink gold case and matching pink gold bracelet.
