Welcome to the inaugural MR PORTER Picks of the Week, our newest segment where at the end of every week we round up our favourite watches released on MR PORTER, the award-winning online retail destination for men’s style. We’ll give a brief breakdown on the piece and why we chose it, along with a link for those interested in purchasing it. For our first round up, we’ve got a heavy focus on pieces from Jaeger-LeCoultre, along with pieces from Vacheron Constantin, IWC and Breitling. Enjoy!

Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Quantième Lunaire

A captivating affair of intrigue and mystery, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Duomètre Quantième Lunaire is an unsung hero of modern watchmaking. Combining spectacular drama with a delectable aesthetic along with the age old adage of the romanticism of a moonphase indicator, the Duomètre Quantième Lunaire is, in a word, spectacular.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Hand Wound

Purity in watchmaking typically leads one to think of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s beloved Reverso Classic Hand Wound. A classic icon invented in the early 20th century by Mr. Jacques-David LeCoultre for army officers and polo players, the Reverso Classic Hand Wound allows its wearer to flip the dial over to prevent damage occasioning the silvered guillochéd dial. A must have for any serious collector.

IWC Pilot’s Mark XVIII Automatic

Part of IWC’s ‘Antoine de Saint Exupéry’ collection, the Pilot’s Mark XVIII Automatic draws inspiration from the flying suit that the French pilot and author wore in the early 1900s. Featuring earthy tones throughout, the Pilot’s Mark XVIII Automatic is a brilliant little bit of kit that is as at home on the wrist during the typical 9-5 grind as it is during play. Hard to go wrong with this one.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

In the world of modern sports watches, the classical Overseas has been reinvigorated as of late and now features modern stylistic cues that have really propelled it into the modern era. Chock full of information, the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is beautiful, legible and timeless. At every corner and crevasse there is an absurd amount of detail, meticulous hand workings and quality that is, as cliché as it sounds, second to none. A daily wearer that holds its own event amongst the most elite of high-end sports perpetual calendars.

Oris Movember Edition 2019 Chronoris

Oris has teamed up with the men’s healthy charity ‘Movember’ to creare this special edition of the Chronoris as part of its mission to encourage men to take better care of themselves. Hints of orange and yellow adorn the vintage-esque dial, with the cushion case further accentuating the look and feel of the package as a whole. An odd addition I admit especially amongst the other pieces here, but one that I can’t help but admire.

Panerai Luminor 1950 Hand Wound

With its iconic case and patented crown system, Panerai’s Luminor 1950 Hand Wound comfortably balances legibility, simplicity and classicism with style, modernity and non-conformity. From the perspective of design, the Luminor 1950 Hand Wound is a real winner in my books and would work easily dressed up or down.

Breitling Aviator 8 Curtiss Warhawk

Breitling’s Aviator 8 Curtiss Warhawk is a celebration of the P-40 Warhawk fighter plane, built at the same time as Breitling’s Huit Aviation Department which worked on instruments for the RAF. Featuring an army-green dial and matching canvas strap, the Aviator 8 Curtiss Warhawk is bold, significant and carries a lot of wrist presence. Touches of orange finish off the ensemble.
