MR PORTER x Haulogerie: Picks of the Week #24

Welcome back to this week's instalment of our regular series, MR PORTER x Haulogerie: Picks of the Week. In this week's column we'll be featuring the best time only watches from IWC that we could find. Time only watches represent simplicity, minimal fuss, lots of quality and are typically great collection-starting watches, and IWC has a wonderful variety of examples to choose from, so we decided to showcase what IWC has to offer. Stay safe and enjoy!

IWC Pilot's TOP GUN

Clad in ceramic and featuring a dark, almost ominous theme, the IWC Pilot's Top Gun is one of my favourite time only watches from IWC and is a serious contender as being the best watch you can wear day in and day out.

IWC Pilot's Automatic 36mm

The Pilot's Automatic is a subdued affair and offers a lot of value for money in its 36mm stainless steel guise. An affordable entry-level time only watch that you can dress up or down with ease.

IWC Ingenieur Automatic

Combining a solid stainless steel case with a matching bracelet, the IWC Ingenieur Automatic is one of the more durable time only watches on this list. Versatile, accessible and thoroughly well made, the Ingenieur Automatic bracelet is one of the more functional time only watches from IWC.

IWC Pilot's Spitfire

With touches of nostalgia and military inspiration throughout, the IWC Pilot's Spitfire is a wonderfully exciting watch. I love the grainy texture of the dial, the faux-patina on the hours and quarter hour markers, and that green NATO strap is just awesome. Some of the best time only fun you're going to get for not a whole lot of money.

IWC Big Pilot's Le Petit Prince

This one pushes the budget a bit as well as size for an entry level time only watch, but the IWC Big Pilot's Le Petit Prince had to feature in this week's column. At 46mm the Big Pilot's Le Petit Prince is a big boy, but you're going to find that it doesn't wear all that large, with its size really belittled (in a good way) by the oversize crown, the slim bezel and rehaut, as well as the thickened hands. So. Much. Yes.

IWC Pilot's Mark XVIII Heritage

Last but certainly not least is the Pilot's Mark XVIII Heritage. This piece is enriched with IWC's deep history and horological culture, but more importantly it represents the best of both worlds in a modern time only watch. Contemporary meets tradition with the Pilot's Mark XVIII Heritage, and with a super affordable price tag, the Pilot's Mark XVIII Heritage holds its own as one of the best affordable time only watches you can buy right now.
