MR PORTER x Haulogerie: Watch Picks of the Week #110

Welcome back to our regular series, MR PORTER x Haulogerie: Watch Picks of the Week. In this week's edition, we've selected some amazing watches from the likes of IWC, Chopard, Cartier and Vacheron Constantin. Enjoy!

IWC Pilot's Watch Timezoner TOP GUN

IWC launched its 'TOP GUN' watch family in 2012 - it's named after the US Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program and engineered specifically to withstand the elite pilots' rigorous training. Limited to just 250 pieces, this Swiss-made 'Timezoner' model has a signature black Ceratanium® case and 24-hour display along the bezel for the Worldtimer function. It's fitted on a durable webbing strap and features an exhibition case back to display the calibre 82760 automatic movement.

Panerai Submersible PAM00973

Panerai's 'Submersible' is named for its extreme robustness that makes it an esteemed professional-grade diving watch. Engineered from stainless steel with a Caoutchouc rubber strap, the design is driven by utility, most distinctively with luminescent hands, indices and subdial, alongside a brushed unidirectional bezel and crown guard. Function comes first, but the effect is artful in its graphic minimalism.

Chopard Alpine Eagle

After observing his grandfather's stainless steel 'St. Moritz' watch, Chopard Copresident Mr Karl-Fritz Scheufele was inspired to reissue it with a few variations - the resulting 'Alpine Eagle' is a timepiece that combines sports functionality with elegant aesthetics. This version features the classic configuration of an integrated 18-karat rose gold bracelet, a balanced 41mm case and galvanic-treated Aletsch blue dial recalling the icy plains of the Alps' famous Glacier. The Roman numerals and indices are coated with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1 for superior legibility over time, while a window between 4 and 5 o'clock displays the date.

Cartier Santos-Dumont Skeleton

A Cartier icon, the 'Santos-Dumont' watch has been around for more than a century - this version has a skeletonised dial that allows for a captivating look at its intricate inner workings. Housed in an XL lightweight diamond-like carbon-coated (ADLC) titanium case that's smooth, fingerprint-proof and resistant to scratches, the Swiss-made 9612 MC movement features 138 individual parts and can be manually wound to an impressive 72-hour power reserve. The sleek black alligator strap secures with an adjustable 18-karat white gold folding buckle.

Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Complete Calendar

"They have a talent that no machine could ever replace," says Vacheron Constantin of its master watchmakers - expertise has passed down from generation to generation since the maison was founded in 1755. Manufactured in Switzerland, this polished 18-karat pink gold 'FiftySix' watch features luminescent hands and indices, a calendar with displays for date, day and month and a precision moon-phase indicator so accurate it only needs adjusting once every 122 years. It's fitted on a leather strap and has an exhibition case back revealing the calibre 2460 QCL/1 automatic movement that's engraved with the Hallmark of Geneva.

Piaget Altiplano Ultimate

Piaget's 'Altiplano Ultimate' timepiece maintains the slim profile it's become known for - it's been the world's thinnest automatic since its launch in 2018. Designed with a 41mm 18-karat rose gold case, it features off-centre hour and minute hands powered by a calibre 910P automatic movement, which can be viewed through the skeletonised dial. Complete with an ardillon buckle-fastening black leather strap, it's a truly elegant choice.
