To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing this year, Omega have released this super luxurious version of the Speedmaster clad entirely in “Moonshine” 18k yellow gold. This is a very special looking watch that pays a fitting tribute to the original 1969 reference BA145.022, with the new Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition presenting itself as a truly desirable luxury product.
Comparing the original BA145.022 model with the new Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition reference 310.60.42.50.99.001 (left and right, respectively), there are some very obvious design inspiration that carried over to the new model. Instead of an 18k yellow-gold case, Omega have opted to use this very warm looking allow, aptly named “Moonshine”, and described by Omega as being “inspired by the shining moon-light in a dark sky”. It also offers a higher resistance to the fading of the gold colour over time. The burgundy ceramic bezel is still apparent on the new model, as is the very legible and very Speedmaster-esque chronograph dial layout.
The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is powered by the calibre Omega 3861, featuring a co-axial escapement, a silicon balance spring and a Master Chronometer status. The movement has been decorated aptly, too. And in-keeping with the gold theme of the watch, it features Moonshine gold-plated treatment to the main plate and bridges, along with burgundy markings. Bevelled angle and Geneva striping feature throughout, of course.
Limited to only 1,104 pieces, the Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition has a price set at 32,000CHF before taxes.
