Watches of the Week: 02/08/2021 - 08/08/2021

Dimitri Tsilioris

Welcome back to Watches of the Week, our weekly series where we highlight all of the new watch releases of the past seven days. In this week's edition, we'll be featuring new watches from the likes of Girard-Perregaux, Roger Dubuis, Jaquet Droz and Grossmann. Enjoy!

Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Ti 230

It's been 230 years since Girard-Perregaux was founded. But 1971 wasn't just about the founding of one of watchmaking's most historic maisons. It was also the year that titanium was discovered in Cornwall, England. In what is a fitting tribute to both landmark events in time, Girard-Perregaux has unveiled its latest variation of the acclaimed Laureato in titanium. The Laureato Absolute Ti 230 is available in two variations, one with a blue dial and the other with a grey dial. Both are limited to only 230 models, and both are without a doubt one of the coolest iterations of the Laureato so far.

Bulova Releases the 50th Anniversary Lunar Pilot

To celebrate the 50th anniversary since its first collaboration with NASA and some 46 space missions since, Bulova has unveiled the 50th Anniversary Lunar Pilot Limited Edition. Replicating the original watch which was worn by Apollo 15's mission commander who walked the moon in 1971, the modern 50th Anniversary Lunar Pilot Limited Edition is instead clad in 45mm of titanium with celebratory gold-tone accents and pushers. It also features a high performance quartz movement which beats at a lightning fast 262 kHz and a caseback featuring a lunar relief design and individualised serial numbering. The Bulova 50th Anniversary Lunar Pilot Limited Edition is limited to 5,000 pieces and is priced at $995.

Roger Dubuis Skeleton Flying Tourbillon

Roger Dubuis has shrunken one of its signature pieces down to a very wearable 39mm. The piece in question is the super complicated Skeleton Flying Tourbillon, a modern marvel and one of the maison's most impressive timepieces. Available in a variety of colours and materials, the Skeleton Flying Tourbillon is an exceptionally complex, invigorating, intriguing and satisfying timepiece that bridges the gap between traditional haute horlogerie complications and contemporary aesthetics.

Moritz Grossmann HAMATIC Vintage

New from Moritz Grossman are two fresh variations of the HAMATIC Vintage, one in white gold and the other in rose gold. Sophisticated, elegant and classical, the HAMATIC Vintage is the quintessential small-seconds dress watch. The resounding difference between the HAMATIC Vintage and other similarly designed watches is the almost effortless nature of its aesthetic. Silky smooth, meticulously detailed and extravagantly finished, the new HAMATIC Vintage models are absolutely divine.

Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Smalta Clara Humming Bird

Jaquet Droz continues on the thematic approach to its artistic-inclined timepieces with the new Petite Heure Minute Smalta Clara Humming Bird. Employing the 1,500 year old technique of plique-à-jour which consists of applying enamel to molds and using a gold dial with partitions of different shapes and sizes that are then filled with different colours of enamels, the new Petite Heure Minute Smalta Clara Humming Bird's dial is incredibly intricate and detailed. The Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Smalta Clara Humming Bird is an especially beautiful timepiece that's topped off with a mother-of-pearl dial, 100 diamonds on the bezel and pallet lugs, as well as a stunning hand-embroidered green satin strap.
