Watches of the Week: 19/10/2020 - 25/10/2020

Welcome to the next instalment of our regular series where we cover all of the new watch news over the past seven days, Watches of the Week. In this week's instalment, we'll be featuring new watches from the likes of Zenith, Chopard, Armin Strom and Panerai. Enjoy!

Zenith Chronomaster Revival Liberty

Made exclusively for the North American market, the new Zenith Chronomaster Revival Liberty features all of the tell-tale signs of a watch inspired by the north of the American continent. It has a blue, white and red colour theme throughout, a retro-styled case and a bold look that is very Yankee-like. I don't necessarily like the cushion-cross-tonneau shaped case, nor do I like the red-and-white chronograph seconds hand, obviously inspired by the flag of the USA. The Zenith Chronomaster Revival Liberty is limited to 150 pieces and will be priced from $8,700USD.

Chopard Mille Miglia Lab One

Chopard has just dropped one of its coolest pieces in the last decade, the Mille Miglia Lab One. Paying homage to the 1000 Miglia, the Mille Miglia Lab One draws inspiration from the spirit of race cars with Chopard's first self-winding tourbillon chronometer. Encased in blackened titanium, the Mille Miglia Lab One is a futuristic looking bit of haute horlogerie kit that is as exciting as it is novel. Love it.

Chopard L.U.C Skull One

The next new release from Chopard is the L.U.C Skull One. Made as a tribute to the Day of the Dead, the L.U.C Skull One features a Mexican calavera as the prominent focal point on the black dial, accentuated by the gold hour markers. The L.U.C Skull One sits in a 40mm bead blasted DLC stainless steel case that rounds off a very ominous looking watch. The L.U.C Skull One is limited to 100 pieces and will be priced at $14,300AUD.

Armin Strom Lady Beat

New from Armin Strom is the Lady Beat. Created for the female collector, the Lady Beat is as unique looking as it is feminine. It features a very technical yet very soft look thanks to the extensive use of whites and greys, or alternatively blacks and greys. It has an off-center dial and a slimmer case which is also down a few millimeters in width. The Lady Beat doesn't lack in the mechanical department either, with the triple bridges reminiscent of the pocket watch inspiration behind the Calibre ALA20 visible on the dial side. Both models cost a very approachable 16,900CHF.

Panerai Radiomir Venti PAM2020

Next up from Panerai is the Radiomir Venti PAM2020. Built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Paneristi online community, the Radiomir Venti PAM2020 that draws design inspiration from the Radiomir models of the 1930s. I particularly like the wire lugs and the matte brown dial, but what doesn't do it for me is the "Paneristi" insignia just above the 6 o'clock hour numeral. It just ruins the flow of the dial, despite it being coloured only a few shades darker than the dial. My second pet peeve is the close sapphire caseback which hides the in-house manually wound Calibre P.6000. The Panerai Radiomir Venti PAM2020 is limited to only 1,020 with pricing yet to be announced.

Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune

The Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune is back and this time it features something known as the "New York" meteorite. Originally found by a fishing boat, it was sold in 1965 to a New Yorker and re-emerged in 2008, having been told to renowned meteorite hunter, Luc Labenne. Weighing in at 2.95 kg, the "New York" meteorite was then acquired by Hermès and used for this Arceau L'Heure De La Lune model. The meteorite features a Widmannstätten pattern, a look that can only be achieved when an iron-nickel meteorite has cooled over period of a million years. The Hermès Arceau L'Heure De La Lune is made in a limited run of only 16 pieces and will be priced at $69,950USD.
