Watches Of The Week: 25/03/2024 - 31/03/2024

We're two weeks away from one of the biggest watch events of the year in Watches & Wonders, but that hasn't stopped watchmakers like Tudor, Angelus and Jaquet Droz from releasing new watches.

Enjoy and have a great week ahead.

Angelus Instrument de Vitesse Monopusher Chronograph

Angelus has taken the conventionally traditional route with its latest piece, the Instrument de Vitesse Monopusher Chronograph. Vintage inspired, deceptively simple looking and beautifully executed, the Instrument de Vitesse Monopusher Chronograph is supremely well done from both a visceral and a chronometrical stand point. The ivory-white or ebony-black dial shows what looks to be a standard hour, minute and seconds central hand stack, but, and to an astute eye perhaps, the pusher integrated into the crown would lead you to believe that there is a bit more going on here. What would typically be a seconds hand is instead a one-minute chronograph hand, courtesy of the calibre A5000 (produced by La Joix-Perret for Angelus and using the THA monopoussoir architecture). Really lovely stuff.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Pink"

After announcing its partnership with David Beckham's MLS-based Inter Miami, of whom the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Jordi Alba play, Tudor released the Black Bay Chrono "Pink". Sporting the same colourway as the Inter Miami team, the Black Bay Chrono "Pink" is a delightfully light yet wholesome timepiece that brings to light the maison's ability to create some really solid and sound timepieces while remaining elastic enough to integrate unique colour schemes. The Black Bay Chrono "Pink" is powered by the MT5813 (which is based on the Breitling B01 -- albeit heavily modified by Tudor with an upgraded free-sprung balance and a silicon hairspring), and comes on a 5-link steel bracelet which suits the overall persona of the watch really well (which looks like Rolex's Jubilee bracelet).

Czapek & Cie Antarctique Mount Erebus

Czapek & Cie dropped the coolest watch this week (Pun definitely intended) with the new Antarctique Mount Erebus. Encased in either rose or yellow gold for the first time in the collection's brief but storied history (Having been released initially in 2020), the new Czapek & Cie Antarctique Mount Erebus' release perhaps is a telling sign of things to come over the course of next month. When I look at the Czapek & Cie Antarctique Mount Erebus I think of its nearest competitors in the Royal Oak, the Nautilus, the Overseas, the Alpine Eagle, the Polo and the Laureato. And truth be told, the Czapek & Cie Antarctique Mount Erebus can and will hold its own. It carries a distinct, yet not over-done look that positions it well within the super competitive landscape it's about to step into, while its manufacture calibre SXH5 will prove to be the absolute talking point of differentiation. Brilliant.

Arnold & Son Longitude Titanium

Arnold & Son entered the world of high-end sports watches with the new Longitude Titanium. Paying tribute to the maison's maritime chronometers but in a far more contemporary manner, the new Longitude Titanium features a titanium case that has been masterfully polished and brushed, and comes with either a Kingsand Gold, Ocean Blue or Fern Green dial that has vertical satin finishing. The Arnold & Son Longitude Titanium also features an integrated titanium bracelet, as well as a new COSC certified movement in the A&S6302 calibre, complete with a 22k gold openworked rotor inspired by the prow of an 18th century English frigate.

Jaquet Droz Tourbillon Skull Pink Pointillism

Another absurdly cool piece to come out of the Jaquet Droz atelier is the Tourbillon Skull Pink Pointillism. Encased in black ceramic and feature a hand-engraved and hand-painted gold skull that features over 3,000 individually dots in vibrant pink, the Jaquet Droz Tourbillon Skull Pink Pointillism is a masterclass of technique and individuality.

Water Resistance: 100m

Calibre: 2625SQ3

Christopher Ward C63 Valour Chronograph

New from Christopher Ward is the C63 Valour Chronograph. The C63 Valour Chronograph is a Quartz chronograph inspired by military watches of the 1980s and features a reverse panda stylised dial with a frost-textured finish, sub-dials with snailled tracks, bold hour numerals and even bolder hands. There is a certain element of depth to the Christopher Ward C63 Valour Chronograph's dial partly due to the recessed sub-dials, to the height of the applied hour numerals and the central stack of hands which I really like. The Christopher Ward C63 Valour Chronograph is a lovely take on some quintessential watchmaking that won't break the bank either.
