Christmas Buying Guide 2020: 9 Gold Watches to Add Some Bling to Your Collection

Gold watches are without doubt some of the most incredible creations in haute horlogerie. Symbols of exclusivity and status, a solid gold watch is the ultimate expression of prosperity. But with some many options, it's sometimes difficult to navigate the market and to find that one watch that fits the bill. We've rounded up 9 of our favourite solid gold watches, ranging from Vacheron Constantin's new gold Overseas, Patek Philippe's beasty Nautilus and Audemars Piguet's lust-worthy Royal Oak. Enjoy!

Vacheron Constantin Overseas

The recently released Vacheron Constantin Overseas is the epitome of a gold watch. This is what I imagine to be a Swiss-made gold watch. When I close my eyes, this is what I imagine. Stunning in every way possible, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas features a solid gold case with a matching solid gold bracelet, offset by a dazzling blue dial.

Patek Philippe 5980/1R Nautilus Chronograph

Tantamount to wearing a solid gold brick on your wrist, the Patek Philippe 5980/1R Nautilus Chronograph is a remarkable combination of heritage and tradition laid all out to bare in one of the most iconic case structures in watchmaking. Coupled with the fact that it's made out of solid gold, and in my opinion you have a bonafide winner.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar

Basking in the glory of being an icon of watchmaking, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is, quintessentially, the solid gold perpetual calendar. From the Grande Tapisserie blue dial to the beautiful vertically brushed case, everything about the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar just seems to work.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time

Brown straps and gold watches, it's a combination that works beautifully. Such is the case with the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time. This particular model has a beautiful solid gold case with matching hands and hour indices, offset by a gorgeous dark brown leather strap, accentuating the finer points of the watch.

Omega Speedmaster Chronograph Apollo 11 50th Anniversary

Crafted in Omega's Moonshine gold, the Speedmaster Chronograph Apollo 11 50th Anniversary is a brilliant example of just how far Omega can push its iconic chronograph. I particularly like the touches of burgundy which add subtle elements of contrast to the gleam of the gold case and bracelet.

Audemars Pigut Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin

The beloved Audemars Pigut Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin is one of the world's best watches. The iconic look of that Gerald Genta-designed octagonal case paired with the Grande Tapisserie dial make for an incredible spectacle. Add to that the solid gold case and bracelet and what you have is a watch that is, in a word, perfect.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph

Nicknamed the "Brick", the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph is one of the coolest, most badass solid gold watches, period. The Mega Tapisserie dial compliments the watch's heavy-weight look and feel, further accentuated by the fact that the wrist presence of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph is unlike anything else, perhaps only comparable to the Patek Philippe 5980/1R Nautilus Chronograph.

Rolex Sky-Dweller 326935

And finally we have the effervescent Rolex Sky-Dweller 326935. This particular model has a slate grey dial which matches the shade of the Everose gold case and bracelet marvellously. As far as solid gold watches go, it doesn't get much better than the Rolex Sky-Dweller 326935.
