Watches of the Week: 07/02/2022 - 13/02/2022

Moving on from the insanity of last week's releases, we have a week that was a touch more subdued. Last week Ulysse Nardin and Laurent Ferrier made the headlines, while this week a more subtle approach seems to be at play, with new watches from Baume & Mercier and Czapek & Cie featuring. But that's not to say something completely out of the woodwork didn't catch our eye. In fact, you'd have to be blind to not see Piaget's latest "Atelier Extraordinaire" produced timepiece. Enjoy!

Piaget Polo Skeleton Diamonds

Piaget's Polo Skeleton was an instant hit. It combined a timeless aesthetic with simplistic design cues and visceral details that were astoundingly flawless. But Piaget, being Piaget, felt the need to pump its already super appealing Polo Skeleton full of diamonds, creating one of the most beautiful openworked high-jewellery spectacles in modern watchmaking. Here is the Piaget Polo Skeleton, clad in 1,746 brilliant-cut gemstones which encase the 42mm wide and 7.36mm thick white gold case and matching integrated bracelet. Piaget said it the best here: Why compromise between haute horlogerie and haute joaillerie when you can have both?

Czapek & Cie Antarctique Passage de Drake

Czapek & Cie's Antarctique Passage de Drake is a phenomenal timepiece that carries with it the virtues of the watchmaker in a highly contemporary and wearable package. The two new models, one with a Glacier Blue dial and the other with a luscious Salmon coloured dial, both feature Czapek & Cie's "Stairway to Eternity" pattern, a trapezoid motif with a three-dimensional stamped surface that creates the visual effect of shadows dancing around the dial. Both are stunning, which I'm sure is even better in the metal, but my pick of the two would be that ice-cold Glacier Blue model.

Baume & Mercier Hampton "Hommage à Pierre Soulages"

New from Baume & Mercier is the Hampton "Hommage à Pierre Soulages". Limited to only 102 pieces, the Baume & Mercier Hampton "Hommage à Pierre Soulages" is a tribute to the work of a master of modern art, Pierre Soulages. Showcasing the artist's work, the Baume & Mercier Hampton "Hommage à Pierre Soulages" features a rectangular sandblasted DLC-coated steel case, a black dial inspired by the artist's" Outrenoirs" painting and is powered by the automatic ETA 2892 movement with a black oscillating weight adorned with Côtes de Genève finishings.
