Watches of the Week: 30/11/2020 - 06/12/2020

Another week down, another round up of all of the latest watch news and releases in our weekly series, Watches of the Week. In this week's instalment we'll be featuring new watches from the likes of Parmigiani Fleurier, Urwerk, Blancpain and Ressence. Enjoy!

Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Heritage "Michel Parmigiani 70th Anniversary"

To celebrate the 70th birthday of its founder Michel Parmigiani, Parmigiani Fleurier has released a new Toric Heritage model, dubbed the Toric Heritage "Michel Parmigiani 70th Anniversary" in a limited run of only 70 pieces. The piece is crafted in stainless steel and features a fluted bezel, blue guilloché dial with a barley-corn "Grain d'Orge" pattern as well as skeletonised javelin-shaped hands. There is an arched window at 6 o'clock depicting the passing date which I think fits the aesthetic of the watch really well as opposed to the blocky-look of a typical square-shaped date window. Powering the Toric Heritage "Michel Parmigiani 70th Anniversary" is the in-house manufacture automatic Calibre PF441. This is a COSC certified movement with a 22k solid gold guilloché-finished rotor and a power reserve of 55-hours from its two barrels. The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Heritage "Michel Parmigiani 70th Anniversary" is priced at €17,700.

Blancpain Villeret Extraplate Boutique Edition

New from Blancpain is the Villeret Extraplate Boutique Edition, featuring a yellow gold case paired with a distinct green dial. The yellow gold treatment extends to the applied Roman numerals as well as the leaf-shaped skeletonised hands. The green hue of the dial shimmers and glistens, changing shades depending on the light it's exposed to. The Blancpain Villeret Extraplate Boutique Edition is powered by the maison's manufacture Caliber 1151, highlighted by its engraved gold rotor with a honeycomb pattern. The Blancpain Villeret Extraplate Boutique Edition will be priced at about $18,000USD.

Urwerk EMC Time Hunter Stormtrooper

Urwerk's EMC Time Hunter is back and this time it's packing a very different punch. Now clad in a stainless steel and titanium case coated in white ceramic-lacquer, the EMC Time Hunter Stormtrooper looks exactly like the distinct white armor that the Stormtroopers from Star Wars wore. At its base however, the EMC Time Hunter Stormtrooper is like its other variations, featuring the calibre UR-EMC2 manually wound movement with a whole bunch of complexities and goodies sure to appease the watch nerd in all of us. The Urwerk EMC Time Hunter Stormtrooper is limited to only 5 pieces and is priced at 115,000CHF.

Ressence Type 3X

Last but not least is the Ressence Type 3X. This is the third 10th anniversary piece in Ressence's X collection. Limited to only 40 pieces and created in collaboration with the renowned graphic designer known to have worked with the Rolling Stones, Stefan Sagmeister, the Ressence Type 3X's design approach revolves around the ideology of "Now is Better". This philosophical approach focuses on global development with a long-term perspective which is reflected on the minute ring. The Type 3X also features a new date mechanism, which reminds the wearer to look at the world not one day at a time, but from a more holistic perspective. Whichever way you look at it however, the Ressence Type 3X is an intriguing timepiece from one of the most creative and pioneering watchmakers of modern horology. The Ressence Type 3X is priced at €42,000.
